1. “I feel better.”
People describe feeling better both during their first session and for days after. And people continue to experience changes echoing throughout their bodies for days after each session. Similarly, I often hear people say in the first session, “I feel lighter, I can breathe more fully, and stand up straighter with less effort“. Upright is not uptight!
2. “What’s next?”
The clients that work with me are excited about the process, and interested in being a part of it. The classical ten series is an ideal format to work with and from. The series acts as a syllabus for not only transformation, but education as well. You will not only feel better, but will learn how you got there.
3. “I notice the things that I do that cause me pain, and have new options. I don’t hurt as much or for as long.”
As our work progresses we begin to address what you do on a daily basis with direct interventions both while you are on the table, and with practical considerations while at work, exercising, sleeping, walking your dog – whatever it is you do with your life. Our work is practical, and my goal is to give you a world-class experience on the table that can easily translate into your day-to-day. We will come up with realizable goals with clear landmarks of how to establish new patterns of posture, movement, sitting at work, exercise, etc.
4. “That feels really good.”
Many people think of rolfing and think pain. Clients tell me that what we do on the table feels really good. Sometimes the sensations are incredibly relaxing. In other instances we are working to address and transform deeply held stresses and imbalances. Together we work to find the balance of what serves you and your situation. We will explore sensation and experience the difference between pain that is leaving, and pain that is held within the body.
My job has nothing to do with being able to push hard, and everything to do with developing a working knowledge of your anatomy and physiology and working appropriately. Often, some of your most deeply held stress lies right on the surface, and other times it settles very deep into the body. When healthy, fluid movement returns to places that have been immobile, or out of balance for long periods of time your body will literally experience new sensations - sometimes this is challenging, sometimes this is the best thing that will happen all week.
And you will begin to enjoy doing the things that have frustrated you and that you have accepted as the way things are because you are getting older, or the doctor said so, or nothing else has worked.
5. “What can I do?”
We work together. We will create a total-systems approach based on your needs. I am available and qualified to discuss nutrition, exercise, relaxation, mindfulness, yoga, weight-lifting, stretching, physical therapy, acupuncture, and other forms of therapy, as well as the latest research. I often take on the role of wellness coordinator – armed with a folder of highly trained physicians and specialists that I know and trust available for you. I want to help you to thrive and reach your goals, whether it is to be able to go through a week without that frustrating pain, to release and manage everyday life stresses, to finally figure out what is going on, or to maximize your performance.
